The project manager utilises modern management skills, techniques, and systems to successfully deliver a project from inception to completion, to meet a client’s requirements within the constraints of the external environment. The MSc Project Management in Construction has been designed for construction professionals who are already generally in construction-related employment and who aspire to senior positions in the field of project management.

Course Aims:
1. A critical awareness of the importance of construction projects to clients and the context and constraints within which projects are undertaken.
2. Knowledge and understanding of the theories, concepts, principles and techniques associated within project management and their application to management of construction projects.
3. Experience in the planning and implementation of a personal research project related to construction project management and the subsequent writing up of research findings in a dissertation.
Learning outcomes:
1. Demonstrate an ability to critically analyse project management frameworks, methods and systems in relation to organisational culture, environmental factors and type/scale of projects.
2. Demonstrate a strong understanding of tools, concepts and theories relating to the chosen area of project management at an advanced level.
3. Demonstrate understanding and critical awareness of the context within which projects are undertaken, with particular reference to the economic, risk, sustainability and quality control over the project’s life cycle
4. Apply a range of project management frameworks in order to evaluate and solve complex project delivery problems and make informed decisions in challenging situations.
5. Demonstrate a systematic understanding and critical awareness of the concepts of corporate governance, financial, legal constraints, ethics and sustainability as appropriate to the construction industry
6. Demonstrate a Masters-level understanding of a chosen subject within the field of project management, through the delivery of a project with research based on an original research question developed by the student.
