Who is this qualification for?
This Diploma is aimed at learners who:
| wish to gain employment as an Engineering Technician;
| wish to progress into higher level Engineering qualifications.

What does this qualification cover?
It allows learners to learn, develop and practise the advanced skills required for employment and career progression in the engineering sector. It will also allow learners to build their knowledge of the principles of mathematics, science and technologies that underpin engineering.

What opportunities for progression are there?
It allows learners to progress into employment or to the following City & Guilds qualifications:
| Level 5 Advanced Technician Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or other equivalent City & Guilds qualifications.

 

Course Structure
To achieve the Level 4 Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, learners must complete the 2 mandatory units and 9 optional units, according to City and Guilds requirements.

Core Modules
Year 1 Semester 1
| Engineering mathematics (Mandatory)
| Principles of electrical/electronic engineering (Mandatory)
| Data Communication and networks (Optional)
| Using electrical protection techniques for engineering operations (Optional)
| Principles and operation of electrical machines (Optional)
| Electrical services and installation (Optional)

Year 1 Semester 2
| Electrical supply and distribution (Optional)
| Testing and measurement of electronic and electrical systems (Optional)
| Programmable logic controllers (Optional)
| Microprocessor based systems(Optional)
| Engineering design (Optional)

Assessment will be a combination of exams and practicals

Entry Requirements:
| Level 3 Diploma in Engineering;
| Level 3 Technician Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering;
| National Diploma in Engineering;
| Physics and Mathematics A Level;
| or an equivalent qualification to any of the above.
