Description

Aircraft engineers are responsible for the safety of thousands of air passengers every year, playing a critical role in certifying an aircraft airworthy in accordance with aviation standards. The BEng (Hons) Aircraft Engineering degree, which combines study with invaluable workplace experience, will provide you with skills appropriate to the aircraft design, manufacturing and repair sectors. The degree focuses on aircraft operational aspects; design methods incorporating some of the software tools used in aircraft design; and management topics.

Aims and Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, it is expected that graduates will:

| Develop critical, analytical problem-based learning skills and the transferable skills to prepare them for employment;

| Engage in lifelong learning, study and enquiry, and to appreciate the value of education to society;

| Develop the skills required for both autonomous practice and team-working;

| Develop a critical understanding of fundamental natural laws and their relevance to general aircraft engineering, design and associated specialisations;

| Develop the ability to apply this understanding (iv), in conjunction with observed information, to the solution of aircraft engineering and design problems

| Develop the ability to undertake typical computer aided design, appreciating the variety of design solutions possible

| Develop knowledge and appreciation of the science, engineering and properties of materials used in engineering and design;

| Develop the ability for group project work and individual project work;

| Develop the ability to communicate clearly and concisely by means of all the currently recognised communication media;

| Create awareness of the continuing development of engineering technology and an appreciation of the need for continued study and personal and professional development throughout a career leading to Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status.

| Promote an understanding of the position and responsibilities of designers in society

Entry Requirements

    Admission to Year 1

    - Higher School Certificate or equivalent with Mathematics and Physics

    Admission to Year 3

    - Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering or any related field

    And

    - A certificate of good conduct/certificate of morality

    - Candidates will have to undergo an interview before admission to the course
